Description

Circa 1825. 2-storeys and raised basement, symmetrical, 3-bay pair of classical houses. Cream sandstone ashlar; both cleaned back to contrasting colours; basements lightly stugged; coursed rubble to sides and rear. Base course; architraves to 1st and ground floor windows; cornice and blocking course; decorative cast-iron window guards to 1st floor windows in bays to outer right.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: modern concrete steps to doorways in 2 central bays; additional doorway to basement of No 45; panelled doors; plate glass fanlights, small-paned, geometric fanlight to basement; Greek doric columns to corniced doorpieces; single windows above. Single windows in remaining bays.

Plate glass, timber, sash and case windows; 12-pane to ground floor and basement of No 45; 16-pane to basement of No 41. Grey slate piended roof; coped wallhead and mutual stacks; moulded cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND CARRIAGE GATE: low coursed and coped boundary wall to street; coursed, painted gatepiers with pyramidal caps; replacement railings; modern garage adjoining house to W; replacement railings to areas.
