Later 18th century with later additions at ground. 3-storey and attic former classical tenement on corner site. Painted droved sandstone ashlar with polished dressings. Long and short rusticated quoins at angle. Modern shops built out over basement at ground floor, with canted corner. Moulded eaves cornice.
PRINCES STREET ELEVATION: 4-bay. Pair of canted piend-roofed dormers.
FREDERICK STREET ELEVATION: irregular 3-bay gable and single bay to N; 2 attic windows in gablehead; piend-roofed dormer to right.
Timber sash and case plate glass windows. Grey slates; ashlar coped skews; stone stacks.
INTERIOR: modern retail unit at ground and 1st floor.
A Group with Nos 97-8 Princes Street opposite (with which it forms a pair) and Nos 6-18 (even nos) Frederick Street as a significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh?s New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain.
