Description

R M Cameron. Large asymmetrical 2-storey Renaissance villa
of old fashioned mid-Victorian type on prominent corner
site, polished ashlar with rusticated quoins and lugged
architrave openings. South entrance front 3-bay, central
tripartite entrance door with rectangular fanlight and
side lights within open porch of coupled Ionic columns
with polished granite shafts and fluted necking,
pulvinated frieze with console brackets and central
scrolled cartouche, balustraded parapet, first floor
bipartite over. Left hand bay 2 storey 4-light
semi-lozenge, architraved with curved glass at outer
lights; right hand bay shallow 2-storey rectangular
tripartite with corbelled cills. First floor band course
and modillioned main cornice. East elevation has 2-storey
4-light canted bay on left, central bipartites and shallow
rectangular 3-light bay to right. 2-storey 2-window rubble
rear wing with polished dressings and pedimented
dormerheads. West elevation 3-window with single-storey
canted porch, side door (to 54) on left, blocking course
and bipartite over. 2-window office wing to north. Green
slated roof piended and platformed with scrolled wrot-iron
balustrade. Finial over left front bay. Corniced ashlar
stacks, with side scrolls in west elevation. At 52 three
ashlar gatepiers with panels, fluted bands and cornices,
iron main gates, timber foot gate. At 54 two similar
gatepiers and wide iron gates with thistle motif.
