Description

Mid 19th century. 2 2-storey and attic 3-bay houses. Polished ashlar. Band course between ground and 1st floors; projecting cills; eaves cornice and blocking course. Timber panelled doors in left bays with plate glass fanlights in Doric pilastered surrounds. Regularly fenestrated. Later slate-hung dormers to attics.

8-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Stone skews. Corniced ashlar stacks.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND RAILINGS: cast-iron railings on low stone coped walls.

Statement of Interest

A pair of good plain classical houses, substantially unaltered. Gilmore Place was built from the W towards the E. The site is still shown as a rope walk on the 1853 OS map; 1877 OS map shows the terrace complete; Nos 26 and 28 formed the end of the terrace until the rope walk was moved to the N.
