Description

Circa 1790. 3-storey basement and attic, 6-bay former classical tenement. Droved cream sandstone ashlar with polished dressings; partly stone cleaned. V-jointed rustication at ground; eaves cornice. Arched doorway with plate glass fanlight at centre. Left bay slightly recessed for common stair (No 13). Full-width slate-hung corniced dormer with pair of canted windows flanking central window.

Timber sash and case 12-pane windows. Ashlar coped skews; rendered stacks; grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

RAILINGS AND LAMP STANDARD: cast-iron spearhead railings and single cast-iron lamp standard.

Statement of Interest

Built en suite with No 15 South Charlotte Street. A significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh's New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain. South Charlotte Street is important for its contribution to the setting of Charlotte Square.
