Straiton tombstone detail

Uploader's Comments

A rare depiction of 18th-century farming on the tomb of William Straiton of Tower Farm, Liberton. It shows a furrowed field with a horse-drawn harrow, a farmer broadcasting seed, a figure with an open sack of grain, and a team of horse and oxen pulling an Old Scots Plough. The background appears to represent the Braid Hills, at the foot of which stand farm buildings.
