Early 19th century, 3-storey over basement, 4-bay classical town house. Polished sandstone ashlar frontage, droved at basement and 1st floor. Band course at principal and 1st floor levels, rusticated masonry between, with voussoirs over openings. Cornice at eaves with blocking course above. Entrance door in bay to left of centre, cills and aprons to 1st floor windows.
12-pane timber sash and case windows, later 4-panelled door with radial fanlight above. Cast-iron downpipe to outer right and bars to basement windows.
Worn stone steps to entrance door with original wrought iron handrails. Coped rubble dwarf wall to street, cast-iron railings over, fluer-de- lys finials, with pineapple finials at corners.
An integral part of the scheme laid out in 1814 by James Smith, merchant. A-Group with 1-19 Smith?s Place, 169-177 Leith Walk and 185-193 Leith Walk.
