Description

Circa 1880. 3-storey 3-bay framed building, 4 marginally

plainer bays added to S circa 1900.

Original building: shops at ground, French pavilion roof

(brattishing removed) over inner bay. Red ashlar; jambs and

mullions pilastered or with foliated capitals; bays divided

by pilaster strips. Round-headed 1st floor bipartites, other

openings square-headed (2nd floor tripartites). Horizontal strings/courses divided floors; main cornice with stone

parapet central incorporating crest with letter "S", cast-iron

parapet over outer bays; decorative finials above pilaster

strips; end stacks; slate roof.

Addition: wide timber fascia above ground; ugly mansard roof.
