Description

J Gregan of Manchester with Alexander Crombie of
Dumfries, 1847. Neo-Classical. 2-storey bank with
rusticated ground floor with decorative band course over,
end bays advanced with flat-arched doorway with
Vanbrughian projecting voussoirs, distyle Roman
Ionic-columned upper floor, framing corniced windows
with balustraded aprons: central bay 3 arched windows at
ground, Corinthian pilastered Venetian feature above,
central niche containing painted stone statue of Rev
Henry Duncan of Ruthwell, by John Currie of Dumfries,
inscription panel in apron beneath, sidelights have
balustraded aprons. Entablature, with parapet raised
at centre. Ground floor windows have margin-panes, upper
windows with plate glass sashes.
Interior: Ionic columned screen in banking hall.
