David Baxter, dated 1897. Jacobethan style 4-storey, basement and attic red ashlar-fronted bonded store.
Main facade: near symmetrical facade excepting pend at left, bays arranged 5-1-3-1-5. Wide entrance bays with 2 arched entrances, 1 with heavy consoles, strapwork and urn decoration, the other a loading bay. 4 storeys of 3-light mullioned and transomed windows over, framed in slim ogee-capped turrets, canted out from 1st. Centre bay cross windows, other windows single transomed lights, 6-pane upper cases. Cill courses to 1st and 3rd floors. Main corbelled cornice, crenellated parapet with shaped and crow-stepped gables, oculi and ball finials. Slate roof.
Rear: mid to late 19th century 2 and 4-storey coursed rubble-built. Belonged to an earlier bond.
Interior: Entrance vestibule retains mosaic floor and vestiges of elaborately tiled walls and ceiling. Timber floors on steel beams and a single row of cast-iron columns, saddled on lower floors. Stone spine wall (of older bond) carried at lower levels by rectangular cast-iron pillars and an arcade. Timber collar beam roofs.
John Robertson and Company, Proprietors of "Yellow Label" were established in 1827. The building was used from c1980 as the Dundee Printmakers workshop until that function relocated to Dundee Contemporary Arts in 1999.
