Description

Circa 1865-70. 4-storey 4-bay tenement with back platties.
Coursed rubble with ashlar dressings.
Front elevation: ground floor unaltered, 3 doors, 3
domestic and 1 small shop-window under broad band course.
Upper floors 4-bay, widely spaced to sides. 2nd and 3rd
cill courses.
Rear: central semicircular stair tower with semi-conical
slate roof and curved stair windows. Flagstone platties
and wrought-iron railings to flats.
Gable 2-bay, that to left blind except at ground. End
stack rebuilt in brick. Ridge and W stack stone.
Slate roof. Windows sash and case. 4-pane glazing pattern
to front, 12-pane to rear.
Rubble-built boundary wall.

Statement of Interest

Apparently built to house key workers at Lilybank

Foundry (Pearce Brothers, then WB Thompson, stationary

and marine engine-makers and millwrights). A good example

of a plattie without additional toilet tower.
