Description

Style of George Mathewson, earlier 19th century. 3-storey and attic, 5-bay commercial building. Sandstone ashlar, grey slate roof.

FRONT ELEVATION: modern aluminiun and tiled shopfront to ground floor, 5 windows to 1st floor with cut-back architraved and corniced windows and altered glazing, 5 margined windows to 2nd floor, corniced parapet, 2 canted dormers.

INTERIOR: not seen.

Statement of Interest

Although the building has been altered by the addition of a modern ground floor, the removal of the 1st floor window architraves and new window frames, it remains an important component in the streetscape formed by 16-40 Dock Street which formerly faced the Earl Grey Dock.
