Style of William Mackison, late 19th century. 4-storey and attic,
Renaissance-detailed commercial building on corner site. Grey sandstone ashlar, slate Mansard roof with elongated dome and cast-iron crown at angle. Corniced ground floor, cill course to 2nd and 3rd floors, corniced parapet; angle pilasters with pedimented caps. Architraved windows, 2-pane timber sash and case frames; single, bipartite, and 4-light canted rising through parapet to attic with anthemion-capped pediments, tripartite to angle with anthemion-capped pedimented dormer, alternate segmental and triangular pediments to 1st and 2nd floors, linked as continuous course at 2nd floor; corniced stacks. Original shopfronts, pilaster dividers, some cast-iron columns
with decorative capitals, small-paned band to top of windows (masked at Dock Street).
COMMERCIAL STREET ELEVATION: shopfronts to ground floor, windows to 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors arranged from left to right bipartite, single, canted and single, pedimented bipartite dormer to left, canted window to right.
DOCK STREET ELEVATION: mirror image of Commercial Street.
ROUNDED ANGLE BAY: shopfront to ground floor, tripartite window to 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors, tripartite dormer with stack to left.
INTERIOR: cornices to all shops; original boarding to all except
corner shop.
The elevations resemble those of William Mackison such as 73-99 Commercial Street (also listed), designed as a result of the 1871 Improvement Act.
