Description

Relocated pair of late 18th century gatepiers, formerly associated with Woodburn house (demolished); probably designed by Robert Adam circa 1792 - (see References). Square-plan cream sandstone ashlar piers, with short plinths (sunk into pavement), filleted neck below broad cornice, ashlar urn finial on ashlar plinth. Urn fluted below, and with masonry flame-motif finial.

Statement of Interest

Resited at time of demolition of Woodburn house as part of conditions of sale of grounds for new housing estate. Flame-motif finial to urn on left-hand pier lost at time of listing.
