Description

Dated 1669. Single storey, 4-bay house. Harled. Stone surrounds; cavetto eaves course; decorative doorpiece.

NW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: central door; moulded blocked, lugged stone door surround with keystone. Steps lead up to door; bridge step overlies open street drain. Flanking single windows hug eaves. Laigh door to right; carved shield in lintel inscribed 'HH BD 1669'.

NE ELEVATION: attached to Forth View.

SE ELEVATION: not seen, 2001.

SW ELEVATION: attached to 5 Tanhouse Brae.

12-pane timber sash and case windows. Replacement timber door. Pitched roof; slate laid in diminishing courses. Crowstepped gable to SW; curved skewputt; renewed crowsteps. Gable apex stacks.

INTERIOR: not seen, 2001.

Statement of Interest

Formerly Listed as Miss J B Paton's house. The laigh door, the door which leads to the store or passage way on the lower side of the house is found in other houses in Culross which have been built on a slope. For brief history of Culross Burgh see Culross, The Cross, The Study.
