18th century. 2 2-storey houses (now 1); 3-bays to S house, 2 to N house. Harled; exposed stone surrounds to door and windows. Eaves course to 3-bay house.
E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: S house; symmetrical elevation; 3 ground and 3 1st floor windows. Central ground floor window lintel inscribed; 'AL.EW 1835'. N house; door to left; National Trust for Scotland (NTS) plaque above door. Window to right; 2 1st floor widows centred above. All 1st floor windows at eaves.
S ELEVATION: ground and 1st floor window to far left of N house. S house attached to January House.
W ELEVATION: N house attached to Bessie Bar's Cottage. 2-bays to S house; door to right; window to left flank; 2 1st floor windows.
N ELEVATION: 2 ground floor windows (former door to right); 1st floor window to right. Rounded right quoin at ground floor level.
12-pane timber sash and case windows. Timber boarded doors. Pitched slated roofs. Corniced N gable apex stack to S house; coped N gable apex stack to N. Scroll skewputts to N house, principal elevation.
INTERIOR: not seen, 2001.
Restored in 1962 as part of the World Refugee Year Appeal and initially used to house refugee families. This building faces onto the Sandhaven, which was a harbour prior to reclamation in the late 19th century. For brief history of Culross Burgh see Culross, The Cross, The Study.
