Description

1750 and later; coped rubble walls (some sections harled) separate Banff Castle from Castle Street, return S to Old Castle Gate and Water Path. Further stretch of walling fronts George Street and encloses policies to rear of High Shore.

Statement of Interest

The original entrance to the Castle from the S was via Old Castle Gate. The Earl of Seafield laid out Castle Street in l750 and constructed that stretch of policy walls in that year; soon after the completion of the Banff Castle mansion in l752 he would have enclosed his property and is known to have planted trees.
