J R Johnstone (of Troon), 1911. 3-storey, 3-bay classical Edwardian Baroque tenement and restaurant on corner site with projecting circular domed bay. Red sandstone ashlar. String course dividing 1st and 2nd floors; cornice; parapet.
NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central columned doorpiece; decorative corbels to mutuled broken pediment; decorative work to typmanum; round-arched entrance; alternate hollowed quoins; glazed door. Pilasters flank upper windows aligned above; transomed and mullioned 2-light window at 1st floor; arched fanlight window at 2nd floor; pilasters form broken mutuled pediment; ornamental swag-work to tympanum. Shop windows at ground to outer right; canted windows to upper floors; transomed and mullioned 2-light window at 1st floor; mullioned 2-light window at 2nd floor; transoms to canted sections at 1st and 2nd floors. Shop windows at ground to left; 2-light windows to upper floors; transomed and mullioned at 1st floor; mullioned at 2nd floor. 3 2-light windows at 1st and 2nd floors to projecting domed bay to outer left; transomed at 1st floor; swagged shields to banded frieze; cornice.
NE (BOSWELL PARK) ELEVATION: 2-bay. See above for bowed corner-bay to outer right. Canted bay to outer left; transomed and mullioned 2-light window at 1st floor; transomed to canted sections; mullioned 2-light window at 2nd floor. Projecting central canted blank bay.
Timber casement windows to lower sections; multi-paned to upper sections at 1st and 2nd floors. Grey slate roof; red tiled dome; rooflight; coped wallhead stacks; circular cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
Former Liberal Club occupying a corner site on the junction of Sandgate and Boswell Park, erected at a cost of ?5000. Standing adjacent to the lower-height bus garage and opposite a low terrace stretch, the building forms a prominent early 20th century landmark. The building opened with two shops on the ground floor; a smoking, ladies and reading room on the first floor; and a billiard room with two tables and a caretaker's flat on the second floor.
