Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 6-bay (grouped 4-2) houses on corner site. Painted sandstone rubble (exposed to side and rear). Margins to openings.

NE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: recessed entrance to penultimate bay to left; timber door; single window aligned above at 1st floor; regular fenestration to remaining 3 bays. Lower 2-bay section to right; pilastered, corniced doorpiece to left; timber door; single windows at ground and 1st floor (shuttered window at ground).

NW (AULD BRIG) ELEVATION: 4-bay. Timber door to outer right; 2 single windows to left; 2-leaf opening at ground to canted bay to outer left.

SE (SIDE) ELEVATION: infilled entrance at ground to left.

12-pane timber windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; gablehead stacks; circular and polygonal cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Occupies an important site adjacent to the N approach to Auld Brig (see separate list description). To the S of the properties are the Ramsay Gardens. A plaque reads "The Ramsay Gardens are dedicated to John Ramsay (1877-1962) of Ayr. A champion sprinter, gardener and, most of all, a conjurer of international repute. Erected by Kyle and Carrick District Council, 1994."
