Description

Mid 19th century. 2-storey, 7-bay terrace of 2 tenements (4- and 3-bay) forming terrace. Painted sandstone. Dividing storey band course; eaves course; cornice; blocking course. Architraves to 1st floor windows.

NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central timber door, letterbox fanlight to 3-bay section to right; flanking shopfronts; regular fenestration at 1st floor. 3 shopfronts at ground to 4-bay section to right; regular fenestration at 1st floor.

Lying-pane and modern windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; corniced gablehead and ridge stacks; polygonal cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Good example of earlier 19th century architecture, important for their siting near the Auld Brig (see separate list description). Adjacent to No 2 George (see separate list description), the buildings form a prominent row, with a near unified eaves, cornice and blocking course.
