Description

Earlier 19th century. 3-storey and attic, 3-bay tenement with single bay quadrant corner and commercial premises at ground floor. Painted render to SE elevation; painted sandstone and harl to NE elevation. Base course; modillion cornice to shopfront; eaves course (extends as band course to NE elevation); cornice; blocking course; pilasters flank shopfront openings. Architraved margins to window openings; decorative cill pendants; cornice to 1st floor windows.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: square-headed entrance to shopfront in quadrant corner-bay; glazed timber door; single windows aligned above at 1st and 2nd floors. Single shop window to left, split shop window to outer left at ground floor; regular fenestration above at 1st and 2nd floors. 2 canted dormers to outer left and right at attic.

NE (BOAT VENNAL) ELEVATION: quadrant corner to outer left (see above). 2 shop windows at ground to left; arched entrance to outer right; timber door; segmental-headed multi-paned fanlight; 2 single windows aligned above.

Shop windows at ground floor (varying sizes); 12-pane timber sash and case windows at upper floors. Grey slate roof; stone skews; coped gablehead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Occupies a prominent corner site, opposite the Town Hall (see separate list description), and overlooking Loudoun Hall (see separate list description) in Boat Vennal. Ground floor shopfront to outer left accommodates section of adjacent 16 and 18 New Bridge Street.
