Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay, near rectangular-plan classically derived villa. Coursed sandstone. Painted base course; eaves course; paired mutuled timber eaves; strip quoins.

NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: pedimented square anta-pier entrance porch to central bay; timber door; single window aligned above at 1st floor. Tripartite windows at ground to flanking bays (bay to right, advanced, with pedimented gable), single windows at 1st floor.

SW, NE AND SE ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.

Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; paired mutuled timber eaves; coped pitch stack; circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: square-plan painted gatepiers to left mark vehicular and pedestrian entrance. Coped boundary wall encloses site.

Statement of Interest

Marked on Ordnance Survey map, 1858 as Greenbank Cottage. Notable for its classical detailing including the pedimented entrance porch and paired mutules to the timber eaves.
