Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay, asymmetrical-plan villa on corner site. Coursed sandstone. Painted base course; 1st floor cill course; eaves course; corniced blocking course; strip quoins; iron work to 1st floor balconies.
W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central square-headed entrance with panelled balcony on consoles; timber door; letterbox fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor; panelled balcony on consoles; corbelled chimney to left. Single windows at both floors to bay to right; tripartite window at ground, single window at 1st floor to bay to left. Single window to recessed single storey additional section to outer left.
S (SIDE) ELEVATION: 5-bay. Keyblocked, square-headed doorpiece to penultimate bay to outer right; timber door; letterbox fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor; regular fenestration to adjoining bays to left. Tripartite windows at ground, single windows at 1st floor to advanced outer bays.
N AND E ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.
Lying-pane glazing. Slate roof; decorative wallhead stacks; polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1999.
POSTBOX, GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: wall-mounted postbox; painted square-plan gatepiers to entrances to W and S, ball finials atop. Coped boundary wall enclosing site.
Marked on Ordnance Survey map, 1858 as Broomfield. Good example of affluent suburban villa, notable especially for its fine classically inspired details. These include, decorative chimney cans, iron-railed balconies and main panelled balcony to the principal elevation.
