Description

Circa 1807, with later additions. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay L-plan classical house. Harled Rubble. Cill courses; eaves course; cornice; blocking course. Painted margins to window openings.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: advanced central pedimented bay; fluted Doric column porch; 2-leaf timber door; split letterbox fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor; roundel panel to pediment. Regular fenestration to flanking bays. 2 single dormers at attic to outer right and left.

S (SIDE) ELEVATION: 2 single windows at ground and 1st floor (window at ground to left, smaller and non-aligned) to main gable. Gabled timber greenhouse attached; glazed timber door. 2 single windows at ground and 1st floor to 2-bay section to left (windows to left non-aligned, all of varying size.

W (REAR) ELEVATION: single window to advanced gable to outer right. Timber door at ground, single window aligned above at 1st floor to re-entrant angle to right; single window at ground floor to right. Single windows at ground and 1st floor to central bay (additional central stair window). Single window at 1st floor to bay to left; 2-leaf entrance to glazed and boarded later addition.

N (SIDE) ELEVATION: single window at ground floor to gable; timber door with letterbox fanlight to outer right, linking to ancillary structure.

Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; coped gablehead stacks with octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

ANCILLARY STRUCTURE, GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: stepped rubble ancillary structure to NW of site; 2 pairs of square-plan gatepiers; coped boundary wall; modern fencing.

Statement of Interest

Marked on the Ordnance Survey map, 1858 as Springvale. Good classically detailed house with a fine Doric columned porch, retaining its timber sash and case glazing.
