Description

Circa 1810; flatted by Edward Darley, 1958. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay classical house with single storey wings. Squared ashlar to entrance elevation; rubble to sides. Base course; cill courses at ground and 1st floor; central band course; cornice; blocking course. Reeded aprons to 1st floor windows.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: advanced central pedimented bay. Pilastered, corniced doorpiece; 2-leaf timber door; letterbox fanlight; single corniced window aligned above in arched recess at 1st floor. Regular single window fenestration to flanking bays; bay to right canted; canted dormers to outer right and left at attic. Tripartite windows to flanking wings; wing to right altered, with urn finial to pediment.

N AND S ELEVATIONS: gabled; blank; ground floors obscured by wings (see above).

E ELEVATION: not seen 1999.

Combination of plate glass timber sash and case windows and modern windows. Slate roof; stone skews; gablehead stacks; circular and polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: iron gatepiers to central pedestrian entrance; coped boundary wall encloses site.

Statement of Interest

Marked Bellvue on Ordnance Survey map, 1858. Interesting classical house notable for its single storey wings and classical detailing, for example the reeded window aprons.
