Description

Circa 1800. 2-storey, 3-bay, L-plan traditional house. Random granite rubble with long and short dressings. Long and short quoins; projecting cills; granite ashlar eaves course.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: symmetrical; pilastered and pedimented timber porch advanced to centre bay of ground floor, modern timber door with letterbox fanlight, window to left and right returns; window to each flanking bay; regular fenestration to 1st floor.

E ELEVATION: asymmetrical; gabled bay to left, blank; wing advanced to right, ground floor not seen (1999), 2 windows to 1st floor.

N ELEVATION: asymmetrical; bay to left not seen (1992); gabled wing advanced to left, ground floor obscured by modern garage additions; timber door with letterbox fanlight to ground floor, 2 windows to 1st floor of right return.

W ELEVATION: asymmetrical; gabled; single window off-centre to left of ground floor.

Predominantly replacement 2-pane and 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof with terracotta ridge. Stone skews with simple skewputts. Coped, granite and harled gablehead stacks with circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: square-plan granite ashlar gatepiers to W of house, with pyramidal caps; random rubble flat coped boundary walls to N, E and W.

Statement of Interest

Outseats House is one of the few early 19th century buildings to survive, almost completely intact, in this area of Aberdeen.
