Earlier 19th century. Single storey, 3 bay, rectangular plan lodge with later additions and alterations. Droved, coursed sandstone ashlar to SE elevation; random rubble to remainder; polished dressings. Base course; eaves course; pedimented gables. Raised margins; strip quoins.
NE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; 2 bay. Window in bay to left with chamfered reveals; 2 leaf boarded timber replacement door in bay to right.
NW ELEVATION: asymmetrical. 2 pane window off centre to left. Gatepiers to outer left and boundary walls to outer right (see below).
SW ELEVATION: obscured by late 20th century addition (see below).
SE ELEVATION: symmetrical; 3 bay. Window to each bay set in segmental arched recess with voussoirs; blind window to centre. Coped, coursed, droved wall to left. Late 20th century single storey and basement addition to outer left; broached cement facing; slate roof; irregular fenestration to NW elevation; doorway off centre to right of right return reached by five steps. Remainder not seen 1998.
Predominantly 2 pane timber replacement casement windows. Grey slate roof with lead ridge; ashlar coped skews. Polished ashlar ridge stack with paired octagonal coped flues and circular cans; coped gablehead stack with circular can to SW. Cast iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: coursed, polished ashlar gateway to NE of house; corniced with stepped concave pyramidal caps (ball finials missing); flanked by 2 coped pedestrian gateways, that to E infilled. Boarded timber replacement gates. Rubble boundary walls to NE and SW of house with rubble coping.
Contemporary with the East and South Lodges, Borthwick Parish (see separate listings); similar in style to both.
