Probably built second half of 18th century, extended/
widened (?in more than one phase) perhaps circa 1800;
repaired 1812. Long quay extending north from west side
of narrow harbour inlet; north end returns slightly
towards west. All rubble-built, original part mostly with
flat coping slabs and wide flight of steps at north end
of east face; vertically-set top course at north end and
at west; west face slopes steeply inwards from sea bed
(other faces vertical). Single stone bollard at north
end; iron runner ties at edges not original. Some wrought-
iron tying rings.
Quay continued to south supporting roadway.
Neglected (1984) Built for ferrying cattle from Jura.
SRO - GD 64/1/11/4 includes 2 letters re repairs to this
quay; GD 64/1/11/6 refers to further repairs and the
possibility of Government assistance. The Government
funded a new quay.
