Originally Charles Landale engineer 1831 for the Dundee and
Newtyle Railway, perhaps built slightly after that date.
Original station single storey on south-west side of track
rubble with droved dressings. Probably sometime after 1861
(when the route of the line was altered) new passenger
station built and old one remodelled as goods shed, overall
roof with semi-elliptical arches over 2 lines of track, stone
built, roof now asbestos, original building platform
incorporated on SW together with fragments of other earlier
buildings at NE corner. Single storey brick NW addition with cantilevered canopy late 19<> Stepped stone plinth and cast
pivot for crane.
One of the earliest railways in Scotland and the oldest
Station site in Scotland to retain anything of the original
building leased to Dundee and Perth Rly 1846 (subsequent
Dundee Perth and Aberdeen Junction Railway and eventually
becoming part of the Caledonian and finally the LMS Railway.
The route was changed in 1861 to eliminate rope hauled
inclines.
