15th century. Ashlar monolith, much-weathered, set in enclosure of wrought-iron railings on road setts at centre of Main Street. 3 steps and base to shaft (repaired 1839); chamfered arrises, weathered shield to W face and moulded neck, termination in roll and hollow moulded equal-armed cross.
Guardianship monument. Scheduled Ancient Monument No 90234. Probably taken from a pre-Reformation chapel in the village, and given new use as mercat cross in 1726, when Ormiston gained a charter to become a market town. It plays an important part in the Main Street of Cockburn's planned village.
