William Adam, architect. Dated 1740. Classical mansion house; 2 storeys over raised basement. Polished red ashlar, channelled basement to front and rear elevations; rusticated quoins.
South west front: 7 bays, 3 inner bays slightly advanced and pedimented, with balustraded square perron: all openings above base course in lugged and keystoned architraves: pedimented doorway with pulvinated frieze (modern door), ground floor windows with aprons and 18-pane sashes, 12-pane sashes with bracketed cills above. Cornice; parapet, with urns, balustraded over outer bays. Symmetrically placed corniced stacks, piended and platform roof. 3-bay flanks each have full-height canted inner bay and pedimented porch alongside at basement level; 6-bay rear elevation has 2 inner bays advanced and pedimented.
Interior: damaged by fire circa 1946; reconstructed 1947 (dated on roof leadwork) to a simplified design, with partly altered plan.
