Description

Probably late 18th century. Tall barn, at N end of steading
courtyard, with water wheel and thrashing machinery all
surviving intact. Whitewashed (mostly whin) rubble. 2
storeys, and built against bank with W gable opening at upper
level. 2 regularly-placed small windows at each level to
courtyard and 3 doorways at ground; wheel house on N wall,
overshot cast-iron wheel with wooden buckets, lade carried
underground through fireclay pipe: wooden lever through
window above wheelhouse operates sluice. Slate roof (graded
slates at N).
