Description

16th century, perhaps completed very early 17th. Tall harled 4-storey and attic keep approx. 35' x 43' with curved angles, slightly intaken at 2nd floor; richly detailed angle turrets (corbelling of N.E. turret simpler than others) richly corbelled battlement walk S. side only.

Deserted c. 1775, some repairs 1801, incorporated in large baronial mansion H.M. Wardrop (Wardrop and Anderson) 1874-5, Wardrop additions demolished and tower restored G. Bennett Mitchell (John Lamb) 1964-7, interior work now mainly of those dates but main features of plain original, 3-chamber vaulted ground floor and vaulted 1st floor, complex wall stairs and wall chambers, good Wardrop plaster work to hall vault.
