Description

Probably early 19th century. Single storey and basement gabled, rubble barn, set into earth bank, with long axis parallel to bank.

N ELEVATION: basement near-symmetrical 5-bay with 2 doors flanked and separated by single winodws. Central window larger and later than outer ones. Ground floor has central loading door flanked by pairs of long narrow slits.

S ELEVATION: ground floor as N elevation.

INTERIOR: timber floor with joists built into wall on N, supported on steel cross beam, resting on sandstone corbels, on S. Collared truss roof. All woodwork fairly recent, except 3 wooden pillars in basement. Cobbled floor with inset aisle.

Statement of Interest

A typical Appin bank barn, possibly used for wintering sheep in basement, storing wool on ground floor.
