Description

Thomas Telford, 1826. Standard Parliamentary

T-plan church, main 4-bay frontage to NW. Coursed squared

rubble; tooled ashlar dressings and margins.

Shallow pointed-headed entrances in outer bays with similarly architraved paired windows between. Similar windows in NE gable

and NE elevation of rear wing. Original cast-iron Y-tracery

astragals and lattice pane glazing survives in front windows;

wooden replacements, also with lattice pane glazing elsewhere.

Standard Parliamentary apex bellcote at SW gable apex

with stumpy pyramidal finial and similar diminutive angle

pinnacles. Apex finial at NE gable; lead covered flat skews;

slate roofs. Interior: later internal party walls reduced

size. forming entrance lobby at NE and Minister's room

at SW.

Late 19th century replacement pulpit in original site in

centre of NW wall; pews of similar date.

Burial Ground: small drystone walled burial ground surrounds

church, roughly coped; square tooled rubbled gate piers with

square caps.

Statement of Interest

Ecclesiastical building in use as such.

Slight variation of usual Parliamentary church in that

there are no windows in SW gable or the SW dressings of

the rear T-wing Quoad Sacra Parish of Duror.
