Early 19th century. Loose quadrangular-plan steading formed by
2 facing L-plan ranges with covered cattle court adjoined to W range. Rubble masonry, piended slate roofs.
S AND W RANGES, OUTER ELEVATIONS: impressive blank wall ranges facing Main Street to S (some blocked openings) with adjoining former farmhouse to E (listed separately), and garden of present farmhouse (listed separately) to W.
S AND W RANGES, INNER ELEVATIONS: S range, large 2-leaf doors to left, 2 doors to right; W range, large opening to left, double-piled cattle court advanced to right with various doors and feeding openings, overlapping ventilation slates.
N RANGE, OUTER ELEVATION: most masked by corrugated metal Dutch barn to right, door with half-piended hayloft above to left.
N RANGE, INNER ELEVATION: large sliding door to left, 3 stable doors and 3 windows to right; hayloft door to left return gable.
E RANGE: upper floor (probably granary) removed, pentice roof; outer elevation blank, 3 segmental cart-arches at inner elevation.
The group value of this steading with Longforgan Farmhouse and the former farmhouse (Spar Shop) is an important factor in its listing. The 1867 OS map shows a horse engine at the NE corner of the steading.
