Description

Probably Isaac Ware. Mid 18th century temple folly in Tetrastyle Roman Doric. 4 columns with rock-faced banding and eroded Rococco ornament on pediment. Conglomerate ashlar to main body of building, irregularly alternating red and yellow sandstones to entablature. 2 arched window openings to each side elevation, forward blind, with alternating rock-faced rustication and grotesque headed keystones. Rear elevation plain with 2 window openings, cellar entrance below. Internal arches of doorway and windows to rear of portico fallen. Plain fireplace and flue to rear wall. Roofless, in poor condition.

Statement of Interest

May originally have been an idiosyncratic Summer House. The use of 3 different building stones may suggest that this building is a composite one, although the mixture of the 2 sandstones can be seen elsewhere around Amisfield. See also notes for separate listing of Amisfield Park Stables.
