Seated figure, raised on inscribed and corniced square red
ashlar base overlooking Ecclefechan village. Modern concrete
paved surround.
Inscriptions include "Erected by Alexander Carlyle" (nephew
of Thomas Carlyle) and "Restored by the National Trust for
Scotland, 1981" (iron railings presumably removed then and
pavement constructed).
