Charles Kinnear of Peddie and Kinnear, 1872. Large
asymmetrical baronial house. 3 storeys, attics and basement
with 4-storey drum tower to NE angle. Much use of decorative
corbel and string courses, angle turrets and crowstepped
gables.
Stugged red ashlar with polished chamfered margins.
At base of tower, balustraded flight of steps with terminal ball-finialled piers leads to roll-moulded doorway,
double-leaf doors. Stepped roll-moulding over door and
flanking windows. Deep band of stepped corbelling over 2nd
floor; corbelled balustraded parapet, ogee domed caphouse
with spike finial. Otherwise 1st floor windows mainly bi or
tripartite, mullioned and transomed.
W elevation to right 2-storey projecting square window with
corbelled angle turrets, crowstepped gable above. To left,
canted corbelled 4-light oriel with parapet; twin crowstep
gablets flank tall central stack.
Triangular or semi-circular dormer pediments with ball
finials. Slate roofs, corniced axial and wallhead stacks.
Conical roofs to angle turrets with fish-scale slates.
Single-storey range to SE giving service quarters, intrusive
metal garage door to gable.
INTERIOR: some deep coved plaster and anaglypta cornices.
Panelled timber doors.
