John Hodgson of Carlisle, 1851. Poorhouse. T-plan; 2 storeys;
long symmetrical 11-bay S elevation, basement to rear and
twin-gabled 4-bay central rear wing. Alterations by Oliver
Dodgshon of Carlisle, 1907. Stugged red coursers with
projecting cills. Central corniced and painted doorpiece to
S, recessed door with fanlight, rectangular panel above; sash
windows with 12-pane glazing pattern (small lights in 3rd and
9th bays not original). Blocked eaves; end and axial stacks;
slate roofs.
Enclosure wall to S with gateway, square piers, wrought-iron
gates
Male rooms and yards to W side of building, females to the E.
