A & W Reid, Elgin and Inverness, 1870-75. 3 rectangular blocks
linked by porches presenting symmetrical SE 3 gabled
frontage. All harl pointed rubble with tooled rubble and some contrasting red ashlar dressings. Outer blocks each single
storey, with 2-storey centre block (schoolhouse), which has
canted bay ground floor window and 6 light 1st floor window.
Outer blocks have large 6-light front gable windows each
with small round headed louvred vent in gable above. Plank
doors to entrances with ornate cast-iron hinges. 4 windows to
outer return elevations of East and West Wings. Lattice pane
glazing survives in front windows; coped end stacks to East
and West Wings; Corrie Lodge in centre has flanking
shouldered wallhead stacks. Decorative bargeboards with
pendant newels; slate roofs.
Plans show building as boys' school (W) and girls' (E) with
school teacher's dwelling in centre. 1st ed. OS (1871)
reveals that outer buildings were constructed first, for
centre dwelling not on map. More recently the West Wing used
as a church on Sundays, and the East Wing as village hall.
All now as three dwellings.
