Circa 1790, classical 2-storey, 5-bay house over raised
basement, with later 19th century 2-storey, 2-bay wing set
back at E gable. Original house with polished ashlar S front
over tooled ashlar basement; W return gable rendered and
lined as ashlar. Harled front with tooled ashlar margins to
wing, harl-pointed rear.
Centre door behind Roman Doric portico and approached by
flight of steps oversailing raised basement. Flanking
windows set in shallow round-headed recesses linked at base
and impost level by band courses. 1st floor windows linked by
moulded cill course.
3-bay W return elevation with some blind fenestration. Wide
3-bay rear with slightly advanced centre bay and raised
ground floor windows, originally set in shallow round-headed
recesses similar to front, now altered and partially masked.
Raised basement service block projects at rear under grassed
terrace with rubble frontage and ashlar parapet, centre
segmental-headed entrance with flanking lancets.
12-pane glazing; balustraded die to front and side wallhead;
paired corniced wall-head stacks (single stack to later
wing); shallow piended platform slate roof in main house and
to later wing.
Interior; entrance lobby with corniced and block pedimented
doorpiece; inner stairhall with stairwell rising at rear;
simple balustrade with polished hand-rail; late 18th century
plaster ceiling to stairwell and cornices to ground floor
rooms.
Carved chimneypiece in W ground floor room (original drawing
room?); later 19th century drawing room with contemporary
panelled doors, window shutters ceiling cornice and
chimneypiece.
"An elegant mansion" (1841). Rear Service entrance on 1st ed.
OS 1872, on which the later drawing room wing does not
appear. Simple mounting block in front of house.
