1839, possibly incorporating earlier core and with subsequent
additions. Rambling 2-storey over raised basement gabled
house, harl pointed rubble with tooled rubble dressings.
Symmetrical wide 3-bay entrance front, centre door masked
by square porch, segmental headed doorway with carved shield
above and cast-iron apex cross. House extends to rear at
varied heights and with varied fenestration including 2-
storey transomed and mullioned canted bay window opening to
garden terrace. Varied coped stacks, some set diagonally;
small apex bellcote; crowsteps; slate roofs.
Interior; drawing room and library open off entrance hall,
each with large double leaf panelled doors; panelled chimney-
piece in rear dining room, incorporating carved wooden
finials. Staircase with turned balusters to rear.
Island site in River Beauly, reched by bridge. Built by Lord
Lovat and lived in by Sobieski Stuart brothers; afterwards
by Sir Robert Peel during summer months.
