Circa 1822, "Jardin clos", sited to W of Luffness House; unusual diamond plan within a square design, S wall of square missing. Random rubble with ashlar; dressings, long axis of diamond runs E-W. Penticed pantile coping to walls; 4 rows of tiles on wooden frame supported by iron brackets, pitched to the N. Main entrance in chamfered angle in broad ashlar panel.
Of French design; reputedly unique in Britain. Sir Alexander Hope apparently employed French prisoners of war to construct the garden. The 1st apricots in Scotland were grown here; the garden is still densely planted and well maintained. To the N lie the old orchard area and greenhouse with vines. A-Group with the Luffness Water Tower, Luffness, Garden Walls, Gardener's House and Dovecot.
