Early 19th century in appearance. Single storey 3-bay cottage and adjoining workshop/byre all under one continuous roof, which is thatched beneath corrugated sheet metal covering; currently (1991) in use as outbuilding. Random rubble with ashlar dressings; white washed formerly. 2 doorways with timber boarded dors (cottage part centre doored), 2 windows with 12-pane sash and case glazing. Later large slapping to S gable with double boarded doors. Brick ridge stack to right of centre with thackstane. Skews removed.
INTERIOR: originaly roughly dressed roof timbers and battens supporting divots and thatch visible beneath sheeting. No fittings survive.
The thatch is probably straw, laid vertically and stitched over turf divots. The building is listed as one of the few remaining thatched buildings in Clydesdale. Other examples may be found at Douglashall and Birkfield, Carluke Parish, and at 35 Chapel Street, Carluke Burgh, all of which are listed separately.
