Originally built 1064 by Earl Thorfinn as Christ's Kirk. St Magnus was buried here in 1117 after his murder on Egilsay. His body was removed in 1137 to St Magnus Cathedral Kirkwall. The church was rebuilt in 1664 and again in 1760 being restored in 1867 and the 1980'S. It retains stones from all periods.
