Earlier 19th century. Row of 2 symmetrical 2-storey, 3-bay houses. Sandstone rubble blocks; dressed margins to openings, eaves course and vertical margins at arrises.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: central panelled door with 2-pane fanlight; flanking windows. 3 1st floor windows centred above.
W ELEVATION: sandstone rubble wall adjoins No 3 with plank door. Blocked gable window to left between ground and 1st floors; 1st floor window to right. Single storey outshot to gable wall.
N ELEVATION: partially seen. 3 Halketshall 1st floor window to left. 2 Halketshall, central window (former door). Outshot to left.
E ELEVATION: replacement door and window to right; replacement 1st floor window above; plank door to rear outsthot.
Predominantly 4-pane timber sash and case windows with horns. Pitched roof; replacement red concrete pantiles. Raised skews; moulded skewputts; corniced stone left gable apex stack; replacement central and right gable apex stacks. Piended slate roof to W elevation outshot; replacement red concrete pantiles to No 2 rear outshot.
INTERIORS: not seen, 2000.
2 and 3 Halketshall possibly incorporate earlier single storey cottages. Halketshall is situated in a prominent position in Limekilns, lining the road to Charlestown and overlooking the Firth of Forth. Halketshall is named after the Halkets who lived at nearby Pitfirrane Castle and who, in the 17th century acquired a large part of Limekilns.
