Earlier 19th century. Picturesque single-storey lodge with
castellated gothic detailing and heavy mouldings; built
against slope to S with retaining wall extending E, front
wall of lodge curved from E to N, with parapet carried over
full-height open porch at NW corner. Polished ashlar;
tripartites with latticed glazing. Porch has pointed openings
to elevations (cast-iron gate facing E) and bartizans;
piended slate roof rises within parapet and has single
unusually tall diamond flue. Modern overthrow to driveway.
William Burn worked at Hoddom in 1826 but (apart from the
stack) the style is unlike Burn's. Previously listed in error as
Hoddom Castle, Visitor's Centre (Former Bridgend Lodge). The
lodge lies in a loop in the parish of boundary and not as previously thought
in Cummertrees Parish.
