Description

Circa 1900. Single storey lodge with elaborate wrought-iron

gates, piers and railings.

LODGE: renovated circa 1980. T-plan, with piended swept roofs. Snecked bull-faced red ashlar with polished dressings; S elevation with advanced bays left with cavetto eaves moulding, door and remainder of walling behind timber verandah with main roof swept over. Corniced end stacks, that to E transversely set and with projecting breast, that to W rises from 2-bay wall-head gable. Windows have timber mullions and transomes, and are small-paned above latter. Red tile roof. Modern addition to N.

GATES AND RAILINGS: elaborate wrought-iron tall gates and

finialed hollow square piers, railings (on low red ashlar

cope, curved at N) all with intricate carved ornament. 2-leaf

tall main gates with crests, pedestrian gate to lodge.

Statement of Interest

Listed category B for quality of ironwork.

Virtually identical to Kinmount lodge at Hitchill, nearby,

though gates are taller.
