J Hogg of Carlisle architect, 1850 (inscribed cast-iron
plaques). Roadbridge, single segmental arch high over Byre
Burn with embankment on W side of road extending N and S. All
red ashlar, mostly bull-nosed; stugged and channelled
voussoirs carried into spandrels as diagonal masonry; continuous roll-moulded course below coped parapet; latter raised over
plain buttresses flanking arch. Embankment and abutments
all shallow battered; flat roadway.
Inscribed panels on inner face of parapets also state "Built
by the road trustees".
